Taro is a unique garment dyed in a vat prepared with palo campeche. Palo tinto, yaga - cohui (Zapotec), is a tree of the legume family, native to Mesoamerica, particularly the Yucatan Peninsula and especially the state of Campeche, Guatemala and Belize. To extract the dye, the bark is cut into small splinters and left to decompose in water for a month.
