Guardapiés

The guardapiés or smock is a dress with a long Spanish tradition that is worn by the baby during their christening ceremony, with a long history of handmade and sophisticated elaboration.

In El Hilo Rojo we wanted to transform it in order to adapt it to the comfort of our days, embellishing it with the bright colors provided by natural pigments and with the minimalist detail of two beautiful Japanese embroidery techniques: Sashiko and Semamori.

The traditional length of this garment is longer than that of a common dress, for babies from 0 to 6 months it is 52 cms long, reaching to cover the feet.  For older babies, we have made it shorter and more practical, modifying the length and thinking about comfort when carrying your baby or in case he/she is taking his/her first steps.

Made with 100% organic cotton fabric cultivated in the Netherlands with GOTS certificate, the torso with details of internal pleats, with an opening in the back for comfort, and fastened with mother-of-pearl buttons.
